Match Report - 12th November 2011

Old Penarthians 2nd XV 43 v Llanharan 2nd XV 8 (CADRU League)

The second XV hosted Taffs Well at Cwrt-y-vil and with a side made up of youth and experience enjoyed their first success of the season, winning by 43 points to eight.  The crowd, swelled by the appearance of the Bow family supporting four family members, were entertained with a seven try scoring fest, with six of the tries coming from the home team.

Three of these were scored by Ryan Williams, again excused bar duties in favour of sporting duties, with one apiece to Alex Lewis, Craig Buckland and finally Rhys Thomas.  Five of these were converted by Mark Bow who also added a penalty.  In fact the oldest Bow outlasted his three younger cousins, playing for the visitors, who were reduced in numbers during the course of the game through injury and a sending off.  This was however not entirely to the liking of Mark’s mum who had occasion to call Stuart Gunnarrson to the touch line and ask him to have a quiet word with her son for language that may have been tolerated on board ship a hundred miles out to sea but not on a rugby pitch with family present.

Experience through Mark Smart, Tim Naylor and Steve Cross dictated the pace of the game and the energy of Jez Patterson, Rhys Thomas and Matthew Reid ensured that someone was able to run around.  A special mention goes out to Danny Godfrey who not only volunteered to play second row in the company of Jon Vaughan but lasted the whole game without treatment
