Match Report - 10th Sept. 2011
Barry 2nd XV v Old Penarthians 2nd XV (CADRU League)
The second team played away to title favourites Barry at the Reservoir Field and for long periods of the match dominated their bigger opponents but with the final kick of the game Barry slotted a penalty to win by 29 points to 28 points. The score reflects the hard fought nature of the game and the fact that the whole team deserved credit for the performance. However with a little more concentration in the second half, which had seen a twelve points to ten deficit at the break turned into a 25 points to 12 lead, then the result and the league points would have been heading back to Penarth.
Old Penarthians’ try scorers were Richard Ball with two, Gareth Boulton, Chad Evans and Callum Harper with Huw Liddle adding a penalty. In reply, Barry scored four tries, three conversions and a penalty. Skipper Buckley praised the team effort but singled out Paul Kemp, Richard Ball, Dave Finlay, the entire front row, the rest of the pack, the on-loan CIACS players, the three-quarters, the tea ladies, the spectators and the referee for a very enjoyable match. In fact the only person he forgot, was the man who took in the flags and post protectors, but we’ll thank him as well.
